History of the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match

Face of the Revolution Ladder Match

Scorpio Sky won the first Face of the Revolution Ladder Match at AEW Revolution 2021

Every year at or around AEW Revolution in late-February / early-March, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has a multi-man "Face of the Revolution" ladder match. The match typically involves 6 men (the 2023 version of the match had 7 participants) who are trying to climb the ladder to retrieve the "brass ring" hanging above them. The winner receives a future AEW TNT Championship match. There has been three Face of the Revolution ladder matches in AEW's short history.

History:

  • Face of the Revolution Ladder Match - AEW Revolution 2021: Scorpio Sky def. Cody Rhodes, Lance Archer, Max Caster, Ethan Page and Penta El Zero Miedo (Received his AEW TNT Championship match on the next AEW Dynamite on the March 10th, 2021 episode where he came up short against champion Darby Allin)
Wardlow won the second Face of the Revolution Ladder Match at AEW Revolution 2022

  • Face of the Revolution Ladder Match - AEW Revolution 2022: Wardlow def. Keith Lee, Orange Cassidy, Ricky Starks, Christian Cage and Powerhouse Hobbs (Received his AEW TNT Championship match on the next AEW Dynamite on the March 16th, 2022 episode where he came up short against champion Scorpio Sky)
Powerhouse Hobbs won the third Face of the Revolution Ladder Match in 2023. This year's match took place on the AEW Dynamite go-home episode before AEW Revolution, with the match moved to clear time for the one-hour long Iron Man Match between Danielson and MJF. Hobbs is currently the only Face of the Revolution Ladder Match winner to have successfully won the TNT Championship following the win.

  • Face of the Revolution Ladder Match - AEW Dynamite: March 1st, 2023: Powerhouse Hobbs def. Konosuke Takeshita, Ortiz, Komander, Sammy Guevara, Eddie Kingston and AR Fox * (Received his AEW TNT Championship match on the next AEW Dynamite on the March 8th, 2023 episode where he defeated Wardlow in a Falls Count Anywhere match to win the title.)
*This year's match featured 7 competitors and wasn't held at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view, rather was held on the episode of AEW Dynamite directly before the pay-per-view.
