Blood and Guts Match History

All Elite Wrestling holds an annual event called Blood and Guts every year around the summer. Blood and Guts is a WarGames-like match which consists of a double ring enclosed in a steel cage with a lid on it. The match is only won when one competitor either submits or surrenders.

The Blood and Guts Match that was scheduled to take place in March 2020 was between The Elite and The Inner Circle, but never took place due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The inaugural event was originally set for March 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed and instead took place for the first time in May 2021. The original match from March 2020 (had it occured) would have seen Chris Jericho's Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz) face off with The Elite (Kenny Omega, "Hangman" Adam Page, The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) and Cody Rhodes).

A little over a year later, in May 2021, fans finally got Blood and Guts when Inner Circle battled The Pinnacle 

Blood and Guts consists of a double ring enclosed in a steel cage. The match is a tag team match with either 5 or 6 competitors per team (2021 had 5 per team, 2022 had 6 per team) with wrestlers entering in staggered entry format.

Match begins with one member from each team entering the cage. After 5 minutes, a member from one of the teams (usually determined by a coin toss and almost always is a member of the heel team in order to provide heat) would enter the cage, giving his team the temporary 2-on-1 handicap advantage. After 2 minutes, a member from the other team would enter the match to even the odds for the next 2 minutes. Entrants alternate between teams every 2 minutes giving the coin-toss-winning team the temporary advantage in terms of numbers. 

Once all member s have entered the match, Blood and Guts officially begins. Both teams wrestle each other in the cage until any participant submits or surrenders. (Pinfalls and disqualifications cannot happen in this match)

The last Blood and Guts Match took place in June 2022, featuring The Jericho Appreciation Society battling The Blackpool Combat Club with Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz
